Mentally Preparing for Winter

Winter is coming! Are you ready? Here are some quick tips to live your best life in a N Idaho winter.

  1. Change how you think about winter. Focus on the positive aspects rather than the negative. What do you GET to do because of the winter season? i.e. cozy blankets, warm fires, early bedtimes for the kids(!)

  2. Find your winter hobby. Whether it’s indoors or out, find something special you do in the winter season. It could be skiing, snowshoeing, game nights, cookie baking with the neighbors, Bible study at church, sledding, writing, sewing…whatever it is, pick something you enjoy.

  3. Take your pills! Talk to your doctor & figure out what you need to support your mental health from the inside out. Vitamins are a good thing, too!

  4. Plan something to look forward to. Plan a trip to a sunny location. Plan a night at the CDA resort with a friend(s). Plan your garden for when spring rolls around (it does; I promise). Plan a camping trip or a road trip! Make a plan & look forward to it.

  5. Stay connected. Keep up with your friends, your church group, your coworkers, your family. We need each other year round but especially in the winter. Let them know how you’re doing and make sure they’re following through on steps 1-4 also. Happy winter, y’all! I really do love this time of year!
